Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how Derek Dunlop Photography collects, uses, and protects personal information received through this website and when you work with me.
This policy was last updated in July 2026.
Derek Dunlop Photography is a wedding photography business based in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland. For anything relating to your personal data, you can contact me any time through the contact page.
Information I Collect
When you complete the contact form, email me, or call, you may provide your name, email address, phone number, wedding date, venue, and other details about your day. I use this information to reply to your enquiry and, if you book, to plan and deliver your photography.
This website also automatically collects some technical information — your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit, and the time and date of your visit. This is standard analytics data used to measure traffic and diagnose technical issues. It is not used to identify you personally.
How Your Information Is Used
I use your personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and provide information about my services
- plan, deliver, and follow up on wedding photography bookings
- improve this website and the experience it offers
- send occasional information about my services, only where you have agreed to receive it
Lawful Basis
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), I process your information on the following bases: consent (when you fill in the contact form or agree to receive updates), contract (when you book me and I need your details to deliver the service), and legitimate interest (basic website analytics and responding to direct enquiries).
How Long I Keep Your Information
Enquiry details are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry. If you book, your details are kept for the duration of our work together and for a reasonable period afterwards for accounting, legal, and album/print order purposes. You can ask me to delete your information at any time (see Your Rights below).
Photographs
As a photographer, the images I create of you and your guests are also personal data. How your wedding photographs may be used — including whether they can appear in my portfolio, on this website, or on social media — is covered in your photography contract.
Information Protection
This website is hosted on a server that is regularly updated with the latest security patches, with industry-standard firewalls in place. Any payments are handled by third-party providers using SSL encryption — I never see or store your card details.
Cookies
Cookies are small files that a website transfers to your device. This website uses cookies to remember preferences, understand which pages visitors use, and improve the experience.
You can accept or decline cookies. Most browsers accept them by default, but you can change your browser settings to decline them — though some website features may not work fully as a result. Check your browser's documentation for how to manage cookies.
Analytics and Tracking
This website uses the following third-party tools:
Google Analytics (via Google Tag Manager). Used to measure visitor interactions with this website — pages visited, time on site, and similar statistics. This information cannot be used to identify individual visitors. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.
Meta (Facebook) Pixel. This website sends data to Meta about actions visitors take here, which gives me insights about advertising and lets Meta show relevant ads. Meta may use cookies and similar technologies to collect this information, in accordance with the Meta Privacy Policy. This data is never combined with your personally identifiable information.
Google Search Console. Used to monitor how this website appears in Google search results. It does not track individual visitors.
Opting Out
You can opt out of advertising tracking via the Google Ad Settings page, the Digital Advertising Alliance Consumer Choice Page, or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. Using your browser's private/incognito mode also removes most tracking for that session.
To opt out of Meta's tracking, visit your Facebook ad preferences settings.
If you would like to unsubscribe from any future emails, contact me and your address will be removed.
Sharing with Third Parties
Derek Dunlop Photography does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. The only exceptions are the service providers who help operate this website and my business (such as website hosting and gallery delivery), all of whom are required to keep your information confidential — and situations where disclosure is required by law or needed to protect the rights, property, or safety of others.
Your Rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data I hold about you
- correct anything that's inaccurate
- request deletion of your data
- object to or restrict how your data is processed
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent
To exercise any of these rights, just get in touch. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.

This website may link to other websites outside my control. Please refer to those websites' own privacy policies for information about how they handle your data.
Do Not Track
This website cannot currently honour Do Not Track browser signals, as some of the third-party analytics tools it uses do not support them.
