She spotted me, threw her arm in the air and let go. That's the moment I'd been waiting for. Not posed. Just pure joy, straight down the lens.
By this point in the evening, the dance floor at Lochside House Hotel was packed. Bridesmaids in sage green, kilts swinging, kids up on shoulders and glow sticks everywhere.
Lochside sits beside the loch near New Cumnock, in East Ayrshire. With the hotel, lodges and spa all on site, most guests stay over. Nobody's watching the clock for taxis, so the party keeps going.
Dance floors are dark and move fast. I use flash to freeze moments like this, while keeping the colour from the venue lights behind.
A wee planning tip: if you're thinking about glow sticks, go for it. They give shy guests something to do with their hands, and the colour lifts every photo.
This couple told me they loved having me there, and it shows. When you feel at ease with your photographer, you stop thinking about the camera. That's when photos like this happen.
