A quiet moment on the morning of the wedding — the groom fastening his cuff in front of a tall mirror, his reflection doubled in the glass, low light wrapping around him and catching the tartan of his kilt. It’s a simple getting-ready shot, but the mirror turns it into something with a bit more depth and mood.
This groom had a bit on his mind that morning, so there were a few nerves about before the day got going. A few calm minutes like this one are exactly when I work quietly in the background, catching the real moments rather than posing them.
The Marine Hotel in Troon sits right on the coast beside Royal Troon, and its grand rooms and soft morning light make it one of my favourite Ayrshire venues for getting-ready photographs.
