A stunning Victorian church conversion in the heart of Partick, Glasgow — the original stained glass, the soaring ceilings, the warm wood — it creates a backdrop that almost photographs itself, Almost.
This was a spring wedding and the weather did what Scottish weather tends to do. It rained. But here's the thing about rain at a venue like Cottiers — you don't need to go outside to find something beautiful. The light that comes through those church windows on a grey day is soft and even, exactly the kind of light that makes portraits glow without any effort at all.
This image captures the moment the couple signed the register — one of those quiet, in-between moments that can easily get lost in the rush of a wedding day. I always watch for it. There's something about the stillness of that moment, the two people bent slightly over the paperwork, the witnesses leaning in — it's real and human and completely unposed. It's one of my favourite types of shot to get.
Hayley and Calum were a wonderful couple to work with. Before the wedding we did an engagement shoot together around some of their favourite spots in Glasgow — which made a real difference on the day. By the time the wedding came around they were already comfortable in front of the camera, already used to how I work, and that confidence comes through in every frame.

Cottiers works beautifully for both ceremony and reception. The main hall has incredible character for ceremony shots, and the surrounding Partick area gives you plenty of options if you do get a break in the weather — the streets around Hyndland and the West End have a charm that photographs really well.
